How to Plan Your Vacations With Family in India

Decide on Destination and Duration

India's diversity allows you to craft unique vacations for families. Decide on a destination and duration based on interests and budget. For first-timers, stick to 1-2 weeks in one or two states. Traveling within a region is easier with kids. Save extensive travel across India for later vacations. Choose destinations with variety - hills, beaches, wildlife parks, heritage sites, etc.

Book Accommodation Wisely

Look for family-friendly hotels, homestays or villas with interconnected/adjoining rooms. Opt for hotels with kids' clubs, pools, entertainment and restaurants. Self-catering villas give more space and flexibility to kids. Evaluate safety, location and amenities while booking. Read reviews by other families.

Plan Travel and Transport

Evaluate convenient flight or train options to your destination. Domestic airlines allow extra baggage for families. Reserve tickets together. Book cabs and drivers instead of self-drive cars for flexibility. For older kids, trains are enjoyable. Plan routes between cities to minimize travel times. Carry medication for motion sickness.

Pack Smartly

Make extensive checklists of essentials like medicines, first-aid, toiletries, and supplies for each family member. Carry snacks, games, gadgets and chargers to keep kids engaged en-route. Pack layers of clothes suitable for the weather. Keep important documents handy. Prepare two copies of the itinerary to avoid hassles if one is misplaced.

Research Child-friendly Activities

Identify outdoor adventures suitable for kids like hiking, cycling, water sports, etc. Pick heritage sites and museums with interactive displays or workshops. Theme parks, zoos, and toy trains are hits for young kids. Local festivals and dance/music performances make cultural exposure fun. Check age/height restrictions before adding activities.

Incorporate Flexibility

Despite extensive planning, unforeseen events, and weather disruptions, kids' health or moods can affect the schedule. Keep buffer days between destinations. Have alternative indoor activities if outdoor ones get cancelled. Go with the flow and don't overpack days, which leads to tired, cranky kids. Stay positive through adversities - that's what memories are made of!

With the right amount of planning balanced with flexibility, family vacations in India can be enjoyable, rejuvenating, and full of happy memories. I'm happy to provide more India-specific tips if you wish!
